Between the milestones

Like bowling pins,
we line up the events in our lives
and take aim,
carefully knocking down each one:
Birth? Check.
Walking and talking? Check.
Right school? Check.
Right college? Double check.
Marriage/job/house/family --
milestone after milestone,
always moving forward
to The Next Big Thing...
And when, she asked,
after years of hovering on the edges,
When do we get to celebrate
Now?

Funny, Louise had a rant this morning on this notion of ever trying to be and just being. Be. Now. I think she must have felt awfully good afterwards.

LOL Maureen -- I did feel good afterwards.

And I love your poem Diane!

How perfectly in sync.
