The obstacles are beginning
to look insurmountable:
the water too deep,
the mountains too high,
the distance too far,
the light dimming fast --
yet still the mountaineers press on,
determined to place
the flag of accomplishment
on some remote unattainable peak.
What is it that drives us
onward, past endurance,
to completion? Why can't we be
content with here and now?
