Tread lightly, then

In the heat of the moment
it's always possible
that someone might mistake
this mountain for a molehill --
given that there are so many holes
one might assume they are burrows,
and that at any moment
some blind creature might pop up,
some long-repressed
aspect of your personality
might suddenly find its voice
and squeak--
tread lightly, then, and listen;
be careful where you step
and do not speak until you're sure
just who it is that's speaking.

Quick to listen, slow to speak is what He teaches us, and to know His voice well enough that we can detect the sound of imitation...
